1. In 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment was passed which helped free about 40,000 slaves in Kentucky and another 1000 in Delaware immediately after the end of the US Civil War.

2. According to the US Census Bureau, there were a total of 248,253 Native Americans in the US (excluding Alaska) while the 11 western states had a total of 95,172 Native Americans

3. According to the US Census Bureau, there were a total of 13,515,886 foreign born people in the United States in 1910. This represented about 14.6 of the total population of the US.

4. The first answer was sourced from Wikipedia is not very reliable. The second and third answers are sourced from. I think that these historical data are important for us to understand how the society and its composition have changed in last couple of centuries. Although important, the real significance of these figures is when they are compared to the current and historical data because only then can we get a real sense of the demographic changes in the US over the years.

I believe in the spiral theory of history because while it is true that history has a tendency to repeat itself, it is never follows the exact same path. Wars have been fought over and over again, but the reasons were always slightly different. The clash between generations takes place all the time but with slight variations. We do learn from history but still end up making the same mistakes because our mistakes are always in some way different from those made by people before us.

Response 1
The spiral theory is very similar to the cyclical theory. So it is understandable if you agree with both. But we do not really repeat the same mistakes. Our mistakes are always in some way different than those made by others.

Response 2
True, as a mom you stop your child from some of the same things that your parents stopped you from. But you also stop them from other things which did not exist when you were a kid. Like spending too much time on the internet, something which did not exist 15 years ago. Similarly, fashion tends to repeat, but always with some new twist. This results in a spiral and not a cycle.
